It hasn’t just been about the weight loss for me. It’s been about a different mental attitude. Looking at myself differently; looking at what I eat, and bringing myself back to where I used to be.

Iris O’Brien

Since joining the West Kirby Weight Loss Challenge, Iris O’Brien has lost an incredible 3 stone in total. However, for Iris, a busy grandmother, who suffered a health trauma at the beginning of 2010, the weight loss has just been part of the story:

"A year before I met Ali Jagger, Wellness and Weight Loss Coach, I had a very bad fall, and severely injured my hip. It left me immobile for quite some time. People were doing my shopping for me, I wasn’t getting any exercise, and I began to comfort eat. So as well as feeling poorly, the weight was piling on."

A chance meeting at a charity event introduced a “naturally sceptical” Iris to Ali and the Herbalife products. “I remember looking at them and thinking, hmmm, I know I need to lose weight, but this probably won’t be right for me. Over the years, I’ve been on several diets when I’d always put the weight back on,” says Iris.

"Still, Ali seemed very friendly, and we started to chat. We discovered we had a health complaint in common. I asked her how she got on, because you have to be very careful about certain products. Ali assured me she’d never had any problems; her GP was happy with the products too. She then told me about the Weight Loss Challenge group, which she was holding near my home in Heswall on the Wirral."

Iris went along to the group – still sceptical, and hesitant about being weighed. "I didn’t really want to know the bad news, I suppose!” she says. “But I enjoyed that night very much. It wasn’t really like a slimming club. There was a lot of chat about mindset, positive thinking and visualisation – and everyone was so open and friendly. I was very taken with them all."

Iris visited Ali in her consulting rooms the following week.

"Ali weighed me, and we discussed my lifestyle, how I’d come to this weight gain, and I just thought, ‘I like this woman, she’s positive, I like what she’s got to say. I’ll give this a try.’ I think you can tell when something is right for you."

With just four weeks of the Challenge left, Iris decided to join for the remainder of the course. She stuck to the nutritional regime suggested by Ali... and by the end of the four weeks, she had lost a whopping 9lb.

"9lb – WOW!" Iris smiles the broadest smile you have seen!

Iris then signed up for the next 12-week Challenge held in West Kirby and won first prize for the biggest loser of weight. She has also seen her blood pressure lower from dangerously high to normal levels – to the delight of her GP. Meanwhile, the extra nutrition, protein and calcium, have all been helpful for Iris’s medical complaints.

"The main thing is, my doctor is happy with my health and I’m... well, I’m absolutely over the moon! And, of course, at the head of it all is our fabulous Ali Jagger. Ali has been absolutely wonderful for me."

Words cannot explain how fantastic it feels to have lost weight! I feel I've got my life back and now have a sense of direction and purpose. I only wish had done it years ago.

Paul and amanda before the challenge

"I was so jealous! Paul's sister had signed him up for a 12-week Weight Loss Challenge with Herbalife, and she didn't include me! Trouble was, like a lot of couples, we were very happy and complacent. We ate lots, drank lots, and at first we didn't worry that over the years we were both piling on the pounds, big time! We did eat really badly! Pizza, takeaways, biscuits, and my favourite, doughnuts: I'd get them on special offer and scoff a whole packet one after the other! Paul's weight was starting to get him down.

Amanda after April 2010

We stopped going out as a couple and he'd stay in while I went out on my own. Though he works as a doorman at a nightclub, he'd hide inside a big jacket and stay in the background. Paul lost 20lb in that first 12 weeks, and before he finished I'd signed us BOTH up for another 12-week stint! They were offering a 30-day guarantee. If you didn't lose weight you got your money back - Well we couldn't lose could we!

Paul as he looks now

I lost 11lb, and then I averaged out at about 2lb a week. I'd have a smoothie for breakfast and dinner, a chocolate protein bar mid morning and another in the afternoon, and a balanced meal at lunchtime. I felt fantastic! It took me a year to get to my goal weight, and these days I still have a smoothie for breakfast, and in place of junk food we have chicken, fish, salads and lots of veg.

I know I will never go back to my old eating habits. Paul bought me a dog so we had an excuse to go for a walk. At first we struggled to make it once around the block and now we walk for miles! But without doubt the very best thing about us both losing weight is that I've got my partner back. Since Paul has lost over 7 1/2 stone his confidence has rocketed, and now we go out together, and that¹s the way it should be."

I have found the 'Herbalife' programme very easy to follow and would never consider going back to weighing out my food or counting calories again.

Since the birth of my son back in 2001, I have found it very hard to lose unwanted pounds; I have joined countless diet groups with no long term success.

Jenny Hyett before programme

In April 2010, I felt enough was enough and by chance came across an advertisement in my local paper advertising a twelve week 'Herbalife' Community Weight Loss Challenge. I felt that I had nothing to lose but a lot to gain so I rang the organizer Ella Skomra, who was amazing!

At my first meeting she welcomed me to the group and made me feel so important, something I have never experienced from any other weight loss class. The class was very friendly and relaxed, which gave me the confidence to exchange my experiences with others during the twelve weeks.

I started on the 'Herbalife' Core Weight Loss Programme, which consisted of a Formula 1 shake, Formula 2 Multi-Vitamin Complex, Instant Herbal Beverage, supported by a protein bar, Fibre and Herb supplement, and a healthy evening meal. I coupled this with regular moderate exercise which for me is going out for long walks as often as I can.

The first few weeks of the challenge I found a little difficult, as I had spent years of eating exactly what I wanted but by the third week that desire to snack between meals had disappeared.

I was quickly surprised when I noticed that my complexion appeared to change. I started to feel much healthier and less lethargic. My work colleagues started to comment on my weight loss and when someone thought I was younger than my age I knew that it was working for me.

At the end of the twelve weeks I had lost twenty-five pounds and ten inches, I was so surprised when I won the Weight Loss Challenge.

I have dropped nearly 2 dress sizes and feel like a new woman. I no longer hear those demons in my head saying “I have nothing to wear” when I go out for the evening.
